Scott Brown Win Nothing to Cheer About For Conservatives

As GOP Courts Tea Party Republicans with "Platform Fidelity" Charade

Lancaster, PA (February 4, 2010) Americans basking in the afterglow of the recent election of Republican Senator-elect Scott Brown of Massachusetts would do well to ask if they rooted for an imposter.

Scott Brown, perceived as the pro-life candidate in the recent Massachusetts U.S. Senate race, told Barbara Walters he is "pro-choice." Pro-lifers have been calling Brown’s victory a "win for American women." (www.CatholicNewsAgency.com)

Sadly, that perceived "win" winds up being a loss for the unborn. In addition, Brown says he believes the federal government should not ban gay marriage. Additionally, he supported the Massachusetts mandate that requires residents to buy health insurance.

Conservative, pro-life group Concerned Women for America (CWA) president Wendy Wright praised the Brown win by saying "Massachusetts’ citizens know what ObamaCare would be like... (Massachusetts) passed oppressive health care ’reform’ that subsidizes abortions. They’re paying the high prices and getting less health care because of it."

Either groups like CWA didn’t do their homework on Brown and his pro-abortion, pro-government healthcare record or they’re willing to continue on the "lesser of two evils" track thinking it will bring about substantive change in the issues they care most about.

America’s Tea Party, the Constitution Party warns Americans who fell for Scott Brown’s brand of "Conservatism" that there are more conservative chameleons to come.

"With ‘Conservative Republicans’ like Scott Brown who needs Democrats?" asked Constitution Party National Committee Chairman Jim Clymer, adding, " So much for an agenda change - Scott Brown appears to be channeling the man whose Senate seat he was elected to fill. Voting for a Republican who condones the killing of innocent life and pushes big government healthcare is the epitome of a wasted vote."

Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee (RNC) is laying it on thick with a new fund raising appeal  sent to party faithful promising:

(O)ur Party can win anywhere in the country when we have principled, conservative candidates...(like Brown)

But these victories are just a beginning - a first step in a new Republican Revolution.

(You) helped our Party fight back against the arrogant Obama Democrats’ liberal, statist agenda and laid the groundwork for winning Republican campaigns.

"What could be more arrogant, more liberal, more statist than pro-abort candidates like Scott Brown pushing gay marriage and government-run healthcare scams?" Clymer asked.

A GOP "Platform Fidelity Pledge" is now being used to convince Republicans that candidates with an "R" after their names will be worthy of Tea Party activist support based on a promise candidates will make to support the "core principles" of the Republican Party’s platform. The Republican National Committee is calling for a litmus test for candidates who get RNC funding to follow the platform.

"This latest move by the GOP shouldn’t fool anyone. For decades the Republicans have been selling out their base. The Bushes, Gingriches, McCains, Scozzafavas, Chaffees and Browns have soured the GOP’s conservative base.

Drawing on a Peanuts comic strip analogy, this is just one more example of Lucy faithfully promising Charlie Brown that she really, truly will not yank away the football this time if he will try to kick it just this one more time! Thankfully, more and more people have figured out that the football will not be there when they go to kick it and that there are more than two parties in America. The Tea Party movement is making the Constitution relevant again and that has to make the Republicans and Democrats very nervous", Clymer added.
